Questions?
We’re here to help. Some of our most frequently asked questions are below:
Is Reed Press a literary agency?
No. Reed Press is not a literary agency. We do not pitch books to publishers on your behalf and do not take commission from book deals. We offer editing, content strategy, and publishing services, but we do not function as agents.
Does using Reed Press editing services guarantee I’ll get published with Gremlin Books?
No. There is no guaranteed path from Reed Press editorial services to publication with Gremlin Books. Publishing decisions are based solely on editorial quality, fit, and our publishing capacity—not on whether you’ve purchased services from Reed Press.
Can I submit to Gremlin Books without using Reed Press services?
Absolutely. You do not need to purchase any services to submit to Gremlin Books. Our submission process is independent, and all authors are evaluated based on the strength of their work.
If I work with Reed Press and then submit to Gremlin Books, will you be biased in my favor?
No. We have a strict internal policy to keep editorial services and publishing decisions separate. Working with Reed Press improves your craft, but it does not influence Gremlin Books’ acquisitions decisions.
If I’m published by Gremlin Books, do I have to pay anything?
No. Gremlin Books authors do not pay to be published. We operate on a royalty-share model with optional escalators—you earn royalties from your book sales. Publishing is free, and includes final professional proofing, design, and distribution support.
How do I know this isn’t a vanity press?
We do not charge to publish books.
We do not guarantee publishing based on payment.
We are selective in what we publish.
Editorial services are separate and always optional.
If your goal is to pay for publication, we’re not the right fit. If you want transparent, supportive editing or publishing, we’d love to hear from you.
Why offer editing services at all?
Because many authors need help before they’re ready to submit anywhere, and we believe in meeting authors where they are. Whether you’re self-publishing, querying an agent, submitting to us, or just want professional feedback—you can get support without pressure.
How do I submit through Gremlin Books?
Our submissions are open to all authors, regardless of whether you’ve worked with Reed Press. To submit, you’ll need a completed manuscript or a detailed book proposal (for nonfiction), along with a cover letter or query that introduces your project. We review every submission based on editorial quality, fit, and publishing capacity. Specific guidelines are available on Gremlin Books’ submissions page.
When will the Gremlin Books website be available for submissions?
We’re in the process of bringing the Gremlin Books site live. Submissions aren’t open just yet, but they will be soon. In the meantime, follow us on LinkedIn, Instagram, or subscribe to our Substack newsletters for the latest updates on launch timing and submission guidelines.
What is the Reed Press Author Fellowship?
The Author Fellowship is a program designed to support one emerging writer each year with full editorial and publishing support. Fellows receive guidance through the entire process—from developmental editing to publication with Gremlin Books. It’s our way of investing in voices with powerful stories to tell.
